Our Vineyards & Winemaking

Our Spanish Heritage

When the Ferrer’s first came from Barcelona, Spain to Sonoma County, California in the 1980s, there was not a single sparkling wine house in Carneros. But The Mediterranean climate, with its sloping hills and maritime influences, made the Ferrer’s reminiscent of their native Catalonia, and they knew the land would be well suited for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the two most important sparkling wine grapes.

Our Winemaking Team

Mike Crumly, VP of Production, along with Bob Iantosca, Executive Winemaker, and Steve Urberg, Winemaker, have created more award-winning California sparkling wines than any other winemaking team. Their collaboration, distinguished by meticulous clonal trials and groundbreaking research, continues to have a profound effect on the expression of the vineyard-driven sparkling and estate varietal wines of Gloria Ferrer.

Back then, the raising of glasses was accompanied by the exclamation "Waes haeil," Middle English for "Be well." One legendary story declares the custom of touching glasses evolved from concerns about poisoning. Clinking glasses…

Celebrating Spring

Spring is around the corner. We love spring because it’s the time the valley comes alive! Each spring the Sonoma hills are blanketed with wild flowers and it’s common to see mustard flowers in full bloom in our vineyard rows. To celebrate this lively time of year we’ve decided to throw our first ever Bubbles & […]
