Summer Sips & Pairing Tips

Yesterday marked the official first day of Summer! Along with the summer heat comes backyard barbeques and poolside lounging, which could not be complete without the right wine and a delicious dish. There are so many summer activities that sometimes it can be hard choosing the perfect wine to bring along for the adventure, so we are here to help!

By the Pool

Brut Rosé & Ahi Tuna Green Apple Guacamole

If you plan to enjoy a casual day by the pool we can tell you from experience that the ideal combination for relaxation and summer sun is a glass of chilled bubbles. Is there a better way to do summer bubbles than our Brut Rosé? We don’t think so. This wine is also a great pairing for one of our simple yet addictive summer recipes, the Ahi Tuna Green Apple Guacamole. This guacamole is a tangy summer twist on the traditional dip and the acidic green apple and creamy avocados pair incredibly well with the green apple flavors and creamy mousse mouthfeel of the Brut Rosé, our newest sparkling wine. Grab a book and get your tan on with this light snack and a refreshing glass (or two) of bubbles.

Glorious Tip: Use a floating ice bucket to keep the bottle chilled in the pool with you!

At the Beach

Estate Pinot Blanc & Seared Ahi with Sweet Tamari Marinade on Watermelon Cubes

This crisp summer inspired wine has flavors of peach and melon that can transport you to a tropical beach destination with just one sip. Why settle for that when you can go to the beach and experience the real thing? The ocean waves crashing down, the sand between your toe, and a bottle of the 2016 Estate Pinot Blanc come together for one glorious day at the beach. Don’t forget to bring a light snack! The Seared Ahi with Sweet Tamari Marinade on Watermelon Cubes is a great dish to spice up your beach day! The melon in the wine goes well with watermelon in this dish and the crisp clean flavors the wine are perfectly balanced by the intense flavors of the spices on the Ahi and the cool ocean breeze.

Glorious Tip: You won’t need to bring a bottle opener to the beach with you because the cap on this great wine can just screw right off!

Grilling on the Patio

Estate Pinot Noir & Bubbly Manchego Funnel Cakes with Charred Onion Mascarpone Jamon and Blackberry Jalapeño Mostarda 

Summer without grilling on the patio just wouldn’t be summer! You can grill whatever your heart desires. Fresh vegetables, basic burgers, or fresh seafood are all great choices; the 2013 Estate Pinot Noir can easily pair will all three. Each pairing would bring out different complex flavors and components in the wine. While you’re grilling your main entrée we suggest having a glass of the Estate Pinot Noir paired with Bubbly Manchego Funnel Cakes with Charred Onion Mascarpone Jamon and Blackberry Jalapeño Mostarda. The strong cheese, charred onions, and fruity taste of this appetizer bring out the black cherry and pomegranate in the wine with a slight spice. We love grilling because it’s easy and this wine makes thins easy too since it pairs with just about everything!

Glorious Tip: You can enjoy this wine with every course of dinner because it is so versatile! After appetizers and dinner you can’t forget dessert! Try a glass of this wine with grilled peaches and figs or try it with poached pairs.

Camping

Sonoma Brut & Crispy Prosciutto Blue Cheese Dried Fig Kettle Corn

The classic Sonoma Brut sparkling wine is the best pairing for one of the most classic summer activities, camping. Whether you enjoy roughing it in the middle of a national park or “glamping” is more your style, a glass of bubbles will only make your adventure more enjoyable. When you’re camping it can sometimes be hard to cook depending on what sort of amenities you have so the great thing about the Crispy Prosciutto Blue Cheese Dried Fig Kettle Corn is that you can make it ahead of time and it is an easy snack to have lying around the campsite. This brilliant flavor mixture of salty, sweet, and savory is definitely a trail mix upgrade! All the flavors also mesh well against the bright acidity and bold flavors of the Sonoma Brut making for an elevated camping experience. 

Glorious Tip: If you bring a bottle of bubbles when you go camping there is no need for the wine opener! Just pop the bottle and enjoy!

On the Boat

Pinot Noir Rosé & Ceviche Tostadas with Nectarines and Thai Basil

Taking a boat out on the water is the second best way to beat the summer heat, the first is with a bottle of 2016 Pinot Noir Rosé, one of our newest wines. The beautiful pink hue with strawberry and peach flavors will be everything you crave and more while you are out on the boat! This light and refreshing wine is also paired well with the citrus and saltiness of Ceviche Tostadas with Nectarines and Thai Basil. While this flavorful bite does require a little bit of preparation it can be easily done before you go out and about on the boat. Trust us, you will be so glad you made them!
