Step into Spring: New Wines & Food Pairings

Spring is in the air and the rain is finally coming to an end! If there was ever a spring for Gloria to celebrate then this year is definitely the year. We have quite a few exciting new wines that were released this Spring in our tasting room. Two wines were released the beginning of April: our new 2016 Pinot Noir Rose and our 2009 Extra Brut. We are also hosting a wine club exclusive release party, Fête de Blanc, on May 13 to release the 2015 Jose S. Ferrer Chardonnay, 2008 Royal Cuvée, and 2015 Pinot Blanc. With the smell of fresh flowers springing up left and right and so many new wines coming out there is no better way to celebrate than with a glass of wine, paired with some glorious food of course.

2016 Pinot Noir Rose

One of our newest wine’s, the 2016 Pinot Noir Rose is a beautiful blush wine. It is delicate and crisp with strawberry and floral characteristics with a hint of peach. This still wine is perfect for springtime because it’s light and fruity. A glass by itself is always a great choice but this wine also pairs amazingly with two recipes created by two of our 2016 Glorious Bites semi-finalists.

Seared Scallops in Lemon Thyme Brown Butter Sauce with Crispy Potatoes, Heirloom Tomatoes, and Avocado

This dish has a creamy citrus sauce and bright heirloom tomatoes that are highlighted by the floral notes in the wine and complement the strawberry flavors well. We think this recipe is also a great springtime dish and certainly looks the part with beautiful edible flowers as a garnish.

Shrimp, Zucchini, Corn Fritters with Spicy Tomato Jam, Lime Crema, and Crispy Proscuitto

A perfect blend of salty, creamy and citrus foods comes together to create this appetizer. The saltiness of the prosciutto and the bright flavors of strawberry in the wine balance each other out. The bright and acidic characteristics of the wine also do well when pairing with the spicy tomato jam.

2009 Extra Brut

Another year means another amazing Extra Brut sparkling wine that has been aged to perfection. This dry wine was late disgorged to enhance its sublime effervescence. Aromas of green apple and toasty brioche are dominant in this wine. It brings to life bright, crisp flavors of citrus, honey, and black cherry with a ginger finish. It is perfect for those searching for something that springtime wine that is on the drier side. If you are feeling adventurous we have two exciting bites, created by two of our 2016 Glorious Bites semi-finalists, that we think are pretty incredible on their own but even more so when paired with our Extra Brut.

Spicy Cheese Quackers, Goat Cheese, and Duck Liver Mousse Crostini with Figs and Fizzy Aguachile

This recipe is very creamy with the goat cheese and duck liver mouse. It also has strong flavors and a sweet and spicy kick to it. Not every wine could handle the intense flavors you get with each bite of this dish but the dryness of the 2009 Extra Brut and the citrus flavors only elevate each bite.

Pan Pacific Tostado Bites with Korean Pulled Pork and Lemongrass Strawberry and Asian Apple Salsa and Strawberry Sriracha Drizzle

An extremely unique salsa with sweet and savory flavors is not a traditional combination when served with a sweet and spicy strawberry sriracha over tostado bites and pulled pork. It also has different flavors with each bite. Our Extra Brut is just the right match to keep your taste buds from being overloaded with the ginger and toasty brioche helping to mellow out the dish.

We promise you won’t be able to get enough of these two glorious wine and food pairings! They are perfect for spring and will be crowd favorites at any get together!
