2010 Gravel Knob Vineyard Pinot Noir
One small section of the Gloria Ferrer Estate vineyards produces Pinot Noir of incomparable quality. Gravel Knob, as the name implies, has rocky soils, which causes the vines to struggle, putting all their effort into the fruit. This is a wine that showcases Sonoma Carneros Pinot Noir at its finest.

On the nose you will find notes of black cherry and earth. On the palate, this wine carries a firm acidity balanced with fresh fruit, tobacco, and spice.
The earthy and dark fruit characteristics of this estate Pinot Noir make a fine match alongside roasted duck breast, herb-crusted chicken, and rack of lamb. Try pairing it alongside fresh figs and smoked gouda for a decadent treat.
The Gravel Knob section of our 200-acre Home Ranch estate vineyard produces distinctive, opulent fruit year after year, prompting us to create this single-lot bottling that reflects the unique terroir. Rocky, well-drained soils, and ideal orientation and frequent exposure to wind combine to yield Pinot Noir with exotic aromas and flavors with a supple texture.

2010 will be remembered as one of the coolest growing seasons on record. The cool weather gave us high acidities which delayed harvest by several weeks. A severe heat spell in late August left sunburn on some of the grapes. After trimming and cleaning up the sunburned vines, harvest began in late September-three weeks later than normal.
