Tasting Notes

The bouquet displays aromas of Meyer lemon, pear and kiwi, framed with subtle shades of toasted almonds. The lively mousse on the palate conveys ripe citrus and pear flavors to a long and refreshing finish.

Food Affinities

Serve the 1994 Royal Cuvée with tempura, sashimi, grilled prawns, and curried chicken. Seasoning affinities include orange zest, white pepper, white truffles and lemongrass. 

About

The 1994 Royal Cuvée Brut marked the eleventh vintage of Gloria Ferrer’s prestige cuvée. It was named for King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain in honor of their visit to Northern California in 1987.  An impressive 73% of this blend was Estate-grown. Only the first gentle pressing of Carneros grapes was used to produce this wine. This exquisitely aged cuvée displays a trail of tiny, persistent, effervescent bubbles that transcend to form a rich crown of mousse and a creamy, velvety texture.

Winemaking

The harvest of 1994, was a textbook California vintage. Moderate temperatures and an absence of rain through the growing season. Grapes were hand harvested from five select Carneros vineyards.

  • The cuvee is a blend of 10 different wines fermented in stainless steel tanks at 55 to 60 degrees F
