2013 Demi Sec
About the wine
We are excited to debut our newest sparkling wine – Demi-Sec! This wine was created with an eye towards the sweeter things in life while maintaining the crispness and acidity you’ve come to love in Gloria Ferrer wines.
This finely balanced, semi-sweet sparkling wine is surprisingly fruit-forward, subtle and clean. Aromas of ripe apple, Meyer lemon with a hint of lavender give way to flavors of ginger and brioche with a long honey finish.
The 2013 growing season began with an early spring that was warm and dry. This beautiful weather continued on through bloom and fruit set was excellent. Coming off vintage 2012, which delivered exceptionally high yields; we did not expect to see another heavy year.
Fortunately, with the beautiful weather the vines set a very high number of heavy grape clusters. We set new records for our vineyard crew for tons picked in a day, and for our winery for tons pressed in a day. Without any heat spikes or significant rain, all of the fruit was picked at optimal maturity and it came to the winery in excellent condition to produce outstanding wines.
100% whole cluster pressed. Wine spent 2 years aging en tirage in our caves.13 base wines were selected to make this wine.
What the winemaker says about the 2013 Demi Sec…
“The wine begins with citrus and honey on the nose moving to Meyer lemon and tangerine on the mouth continuing on to peach and finishing with ripe apple.” – Steven Urberg, WineMaker
The versatility of this Demi-Sec combines well with sweet, spicy or a savory range of foods. The citrus components are an impeccable match for buttery Belgian waffles with orange marmalade mascarpone to berry scones served with lemon curd. Sweet honey and ripe stone fruit flavors create a lively match for spicy curries or Szechuan influenced dishes. Also compliments a wide selection of soft cheeses similar to camembert or La Tur. Add spiced nuts, dried fruit and cured olives to make a cheese board as diverse as this special cuvee.
