2014 Carneros Cuvée Rosé
About the wine
The Carneros Cuvée Rosé is our Tête de Cuvée. It represents the best fruit from our 335 acres of estate vineyards as well as our winemaking expertise in the art of blending. This special Cuvée Rosé is only produced in select vintage years. This wine is remarkably bright and complex and represents the ultimate statement of our sparkling house style.
This is an elegant wine with a pale rose-gold color and aromas of red fruit and citrus. Flavors of orange zest and lemon tart with an underlying Red Delicious apple complement the soft mouthfeel and a lingering ginger-like finish.
Grapes are handpicked & transported to the winery in small bins where they are gently whole-cluster pressed to retain the delicate vibrancy and freshness. Only the first press, with the most delicate flavors and aromas, is used for this wine that is fermented in stainless steel tanks at 55-60°F.
After 6 months of first fermentation, the winemaking team assembles the final blend from 10 wines, hand selected from our best press fraction (or cuvée).
The 2014 growing season got off to an early start with budbreak two weeks earlier than average. A late winter weather system brought in enough rain to supply the vines through bloom, and mild warm spring weather gave us good fruit set. Mild weather through the growing season without rain events or heat spikes was optimal for the development of the fruit. The early spring brought an early harvest with average size yields of excellent fruit.
What the Critics Say about the 2013 vintage…
Red fruit and citrus flavors of orange and lemon on the front palate with a delicate elongated rich finish complement a variety of dishes. The subtle citrus flavor and slight ginger finish pairs perfectly with raw oysters, Dungeness crab, steamed clams, lobster and sashimi. For the other courses try buttery Meyer lemon shortbread with fresh raspberries. The mild tang of aged goat Gouda or Manchego cheese, effortlessly complements the long creamy finish of this unique cuvée.
