2008 Carneros Pinot Noir Rosé
Tasting Notes
Enticing aromas of fresh cherry, raspberry, cranberry and ripe watermelon and a touch of rose petal fill the nose of this beautifully colored wine. On the palate, abundant cherry and strawberry flavors endure from the lush entry to the bone-dry, very long and refreshing finish.
Winemaking Notes
• 100% Carneros Estate Pinot Noir grapes
• Grapes were hand-harvested
• Wine produced using the saignée method, allowing juice to remain in contact with the skins for a short (24 hours) period to develop the signature pink color, delicate aromatics and bright fruit flavors
• Cold fermented to dryness
Carneros grape growers had record frost damage losses in March and April of 2008, and we suffered some loss in low-lying areas. Our crew left as many shoots as possible on the vines during suckering to increase cluster counts and lessen the impact. High heat and wind during the May bloom period compromised pollination and cluster weights averaged 20% below normal. By June of one of the driest growing seasons we have seen, vines in thin soils showed water stress from heat and wind. We started irrigations three weeks ahead of normal. Smoke from wildfires hung above us, but did not affect our crop. We began picking a week early and, despite the year's challenges, we brought in fruit in very good condition.
