Tasting Notes

2007 José S. Ferrer Pinot Noir

The most exceptional blocks from our 335-acre Carneros vineyard are selected from each vintage for this bottling. Meticulous cluster and shoot thinning help to promote extraordinary depth in the fruit, and our winemaker chose a few of the best barrels from among these special lots to compose the blend. Each careful step in the making of this wine is based on over twenty years of experience with Pinot Noir on our estate and represents a fitting tribute to our founder, José S. Ferrer.

Tasting Notes

Wonderful aromas of plum, ripe cherries and stone red fruit. On the palate, enjoy subtle hints of pomegranate with smoke and black pepper overtones that complement a long, silky and complex finish to this estate Pinot Noir.

Winemaking Notes

2007 had a mild, frost-free spring with below average rainfall that produced slightly early bud break. Bloom finished in May, undisturbed by rain or heat. Although clusters and berries were small, cluster counts were high, allowing thinning to desired crop levels. Three 100-degree-plus days at the end of August were followed by nearly four weeks of moderate temperatures. Long hang time with heat spikes produced a cool, orderly harvest with no dehydration or dimpling of the berries. The fruit was sound, ripe and small-berried with dark color, concentrated flavors and excellent acidity – all in all, an outstanding vintage.
