Internationally recognized for research on the effects of climate change in the wine industry, Pancho Campo, Spanish wine educator and founder of the Wine Academy of Spain, addressed more than 120 influential winegrowers, vintners and media, representing countries as far away as Spain, Great Britain and Argentina, at Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards on Monday, July 30, 2007.

Pancho led a panel of leading experts to discuss the following topics:

  • Changes in the phenology of vines
  • Alterations of UV-B radiations, temperatures and rainfall
  • Pests and diseases related to climate change
  • Oenological changes
  • Current counteractive steps the industry is taking
  • Projections for the next 50 years

PANELISTS:
Paul Dolan, Mendocino Wine Co.
John Garn, ViewCraft Consulting
David Smart, UC Davis

INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
Twenty-three international wine professionals from Spain, Great Britain and South America offered insight on the effects of climate change in their growing regions, and how discussed how we can reverse the trend and serve as an example for the agricultural world.

The seminar was also a prelude to Campo’s World Meeting on Climate Change in the Wine Industry, to be hosted in Barcelona, Spain, in February 2008 with Vice President Al Gore as the keynote speaker.
